Context of the organisation for ISO9001:2015
A new requirement that confirms the business management system approach I have been advocating since the 2000 revision. Although not required to be documented I have started adding this to my simple 4 page top level manual along with interested parties. Top management need to put the business in context provided some historical context and including where the business sits in the current marketplace and the main issues faced. The context then needs to be reviewed, I usually suggest annually at the management review. For most businesses / organisations the context is not going to change that much year to year.
A SWOT analysis can be a useful way of identifying contextual issues.
